Professor Patrick Maxwell (UCL)

Professor Patrick Maxwell was appointed Professor of Medicine and Director of the Division of Medicine at University College London in March 2008. He was previously Professor of Nephrology at Imperial College London.

He has won a number of accolades for his work, including the Royal College of Physicians Goulstonian Lecturer, 2001, and the Renal Association’s Martin Lockwood Award, 2000. He is also Registrar of the Academy of Medical Sciences and a founder and director of ReOx Ltd.

He has worked on oxygen sensing for about 18 years and has been involved in a number of important discoveries in this field. He is Registrar of the Academy of Medical Sciences and Chair of the Wellcome Trust’s Physiology and Pharmacology funding panel.
