Felicity Sartain studied for a MChem in Chemistry with Life Sciences and Pharmaceuticals at the University of York that included a years’ industrial placement at GlaxoSmithKline. Whilst in her placement at GSK her research was focussed around the development of novel detection techniques to enhance the drug discovery process. Having enjoyed this experience of applying her chemistry background to technology development, Felicity then moved to the University of Cambridge to study for her Ph.D. in Biotechnology. Her research here focussed upon holographic sensor design and development, and she subsequently has co-authored a number of scientific publications and patents based upon this work. She then completed a short Post-doc at the Institute of Biotechnology, University of Cambridge before joining Smart Holograms, where she worked primarily in the R&D team but also assisted in product and process development. Her main project focus whilst at Smart Holograms was on the development of a continuous blood glucose monitor.
In addition to her role at BNC, Felicity is also working for the UK’s Nanotechnology Knowledge Transfer Network, where she is coordinating activities of the Nanomaterials in Tissue Engineering focus group.
