Dr Stephen Lynch - LCN
Stephen A Lynch is an EPSRC Advanced Research Fellow and a member of the academic staff at both the London Centre for Nanotechnology and the Department of Physics and Astronomy. He joined UCL at the beginning 2007 following a successful research career at the Cavendish Laboratory, Cambridge. His research interests include the development of novel materials for mid-infrared and THz lasers. His work also strongly overlaps with the LCN effort on Quantum Computing and some of the latest breakthroughs in this direction have recently been selected for publication in the Proceedings of the National Academy of Sciences and at the end of last year (2008). Stephen oversees the laser and spectroscopic facilities at the LCN. These state-of-the-art facilities include two Bruker high-resolution FTIR spectrometers covering the electromagnetic spectrum from UV to THz and several tunable laser systems covering a similar frequency range. He is also one of the most regular UK users of FELIX, the Dutch free electron laser, based at the FOM Institute for Plasma Research in Utrecht.
